This watercolor (above) was done at an event at Webster’s Fine Stationers. The occasion was ‘Fancy Food Truck Fridays’. This is a recruing and festive event where the parking lot behind Webster’s is cleared and reserved for gourmet food trucks. People from the Altadena community beyond gather to meet old friends, make new ones, enjoy a tasty meal and shop at Websters.
I have been shopping at Webster’s for over 20 years and am always amazed at the large selection of gifts, office supplies, art supplies and more. Owners Scott and Lori Webster are very creative and always seem to discover ways to serve their community.
God is Waiting on Us
I pitched my easel outside Webster’s this past Friday (9-14-12) to paint en plein air. I wasn’t there specifically to seek the lost since I was on private property and not on a street corner. I didn’t even pass out any tracts. Never-the-less, God always has a way to make His presence known where there is a willingness and desire for His presence. I spoke to about a dozen people that afternoon. Three of them initiated the conversation about spiritual things. It was almost like they saw a sign hanging around my neck saying, ‘Let’s Talk About God’. I was only happy to oblige them. We had a great time of fellowship.
But then came a man just as I was packing up my supplies. With barely a greeting or introduction, he started preaching to me like Jesus would arrive any minute. He didn’t seem interested in what I had to say. I really wanted to get away from him. It made me think about how I communicate the love of Christ; do I do it with patience and compassion or am I overbearing. I hope not the latter.
